THIS IS L.A 1977

PHOTOGRAPHER: Brad Elterman

Brad Elterman’s award-winning photography book ‘Like it Was Yesterday’ is jam-packed with gritty rock n roll stills from the golden age of the 70s. Including shots of Debbie Harry (below), Bob Dylan, John Taylor of Duran Duran, a fresh-faced Brooke Shields and an over-exposed Stiv Bators (below).

Elterman's work epitomises Punk Rock in its truest form; dirty, naked and down right in your face.

Roaming

I've always felt a bit homeless. Born in Sheffield, raised in Newcastle & hauled to Spain at 13, I've always been at war with where to call 'home', and the notion of what home means to individual people has always fascinated me. Passing by an abandoned caravan while jogging a few days ago, I had to take a peek at what was once someone's house. At a closer look I discovered the most interesting possessions - a brown straw sunhat, battered leather books, car-tyres tossed in the grass outside & stacks of tiles engraved with olive green patterns. These treasures, along with my ever-growing interest of travelling communities was inspiration for this shoot, featuring the wonderful Molly Holloway.

SELF

And then the rain came. Although the cold bites, & the one look at drizzle makes me 'ugh' at the thought of going outside; the rain brings with it the most beautiful calm. The cold brings clarity & suddenly I feel I'm finally thinking straight. This fleeting moment of sanity is then shocked from my system when I realise in fact, I have no idea what I'm doing  - I'm as lost as the next guy & I kind of like it.

Sleepyhead

Spring has well and truly sprung. The air has that sweet warm smell, & everybody in my village seems light-headed with the prospect of one more sunny day. I decided to venture out into the balmy wilderness, (sans tights for the first time since August) & dragged my beautiful friend Kia along with me. Bare-legged & high on sunshine, we explored our funny little town & it's leafy hotspots.
